JDRF's WALK TO CURE DIABETES

Hello,
Our son Jacob is 7 years old, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in August of 2005. Just a few months after his third birthday. This year our family is participating in JDRF's Walk to cure diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country.
Jacob is such a good sport and loves being a diabetes educator, sharing his experiences and knowledge with others. This past year he has done presentations in his school class and with his class at church.
Each year thousands of children are diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes in the U.S. alone. Diabetes is an autoimmune disease which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. Unlike type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetics can not be manage merely with diet, exercise, and oral medication. It strikes suddenly making its victims dependent on injected insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Insulin is not a cure for diabetes. It is merely a life support until a cure can be found.
Walk to Cure Diabetes is our way of fighting back. We are so close to a cure. Finding a cure has always been and will always be two fold: 1) We need to educate and 2) We need to fund research. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure within Jacob's lifetime--with the help of people like you.
We know everybody has different economic situations. There are those of you who would donate if you could, but the money just isn't there. We completely understand. If you can't help with funding, you can help with educating. You can direct people to the JDRF website. Help us educate people about type 1 diabetes. If you can help with funding, please donate what you can. Through funding and educating, we CAN make a difference for Jacob and other kids affected by this disease.
Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as you're able?

Together, we can make the cure a reality. Jacob once said after breakfast... "I wonder what color it will be?" I said "what color what will be?" He said "the cure! I wonder what color it will be." Me too Jacob, we love you!

Thank you
