Sister Hughes spoke on Strengthening our Marriage, she took her talk from Elder Bednar's talk at the worldwide leadership meeting in Feb. 06. By strengthening our spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs we strengthen our marriages.
Am I striving to be a better wife, spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally?
Spirtual - Prepare yourself, become spiritually minded. We are spiritual beings living in a mortal world.
Physical - Take care of your body. Sister Hughes wanted to always be able to have her body keep up with what she would be asked to do physically. Motherhood especially is taxing, we must take care of our bodies, be physicaly active be healthy.
Mental - Eve was incredible! She had to figure out everything on her own. NO supermarket to go to, no fabric store or clothing store. She developed her knowledge in all things. We need to seek knowledge and learning. Remember President Hinckey's advice to Young Women - "get an education.
Emotional - Women need each other. Find and get to know your Emotional self. What a great journey. As you figure yourself out, be happy. We all have the ability to be happy.
Sister Hughes also mentioned a difference between men and women. Scientific studies show that womens spines move, to prevent us from tipping over while pregnate.
Women are so different, and we need to find out all about ourselves, love ourselves and care for ourselves.
President Niederhauser spoke next and mentioned that he wondered why as he got older he started to tip over. His spine I guess was a little more riged. He and his family talked about family finances and the benefits of using a budget and having family counsels to go over the budget together.
Scripture Jacob 2:16
O that he would rid you from this iniquity and abomination. And, O that ye would listen unto the word of his commands, and let not this pride of your hearts destroy your souls.
Our wants are many and our necessities are few.
It reminded me of the quote:
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one." So often we are all about wants and things for ourselves, often we forget that we have been given so much, we have so much. We are spoiled and it makes us as mothers have to work harder. If we as a family had less, we would work less, complain less, etc... Charity, and humility play a big part in all of this, but I am going off on what President Neiderhauser spoke on.

President Neiderhauser went through several talks on finances. Each one starts with the importance of paying tithing first. He encouraged us to remember this and always trust in the Lord and obey the commandment of tithing and pay it first. It is first on the family budget list.
Ben and Lynette McNaughtan spoke about teaching our children and how important it is to train our children and have them internalize principles not just give the 'right' answers. Lynette said how in FHE they would talk about working for the thing we have, her kids were all giving the 'right' answers. Speaking with the spirit of the FHE and knowledge of the right thing to do. Then it came time to do chores and they were all complaints. So they started teaching the lesson then having the kids go out and live the lesson as well. Shoveling Grandma's driveway and walks, picking up the benches after Sacrament meeting...
We have to practice what we preach, also as parents we need to set the example. Children need to go out and do, practice the princiles that we teach! This is vital to our children so they can desern the right from Satan's powers.
Satan and his hosts will do all in their power to keep you from obtaining the ordinances required for the ideal family. He will attempt to distract you from centering your mind and heart on raising a strong family by nurturing your children as the Lord requires.
Elder Scott in 2001 conference talk "first things first" stated...
Are there so many fascinating, exciting things to do or so many challenges pressing down upon you that it is hard to keep focused on that which is essential? When things of the world crowd in, all too often the wrong things take highest priority. Then it is easy to forget the fundamental purpose of life. Satan has a powerful tool to use against good people. It is distraction. He would have good people fill life with “good things” so there is no room for the essential ones. Have you unconsciously been caught in that trap?

Help them find joy in what needs to be done, example was given of how the McNaughten boys hated to go and shovel the driveway and now they recognize the joy that comes and are waiting by the door when Dad gets home, ready to go. They found the Joy!
We need to teach principles to help our children choose the right, it is our responsibitly as parents. These principles need to come from the home and be reinforced in primary and other church activites.

Wow...amazing attention to detail. I know you weren't taking notes because I was sitting right next to you! Don't worry, I'll get progressively louder and crazier. The you will wish I was quiet again :). It was fun.
Wendy, I am sad. I went and borrowed Rachels notes so I could have them on my blog to look back on... Some was me! I like loud and crazy Wendy!
It sounds like Rachel took better notes than even me, and I gave her the paper and the pen. It was good to read over it again, I really need to work on most of that stuff!
