Here is a quick slide show of Brian flipping his kayak, notice the dry suits Brian said the water was cold.
They were told that there was not guarantee that Steve and Brian wouldn't get flipped however they promised that the kids would stay upright and dry. After the "put in" Brian and Steve were required to flip their kayaks to prove they could escape. Brian was the first to demonstrate his escape and after observing Brian flip and go under water Steve opted out of that and convinced the guides he could escape if necessary.
Well after a little instruction they paddled down to the first rapids which are the worst on the river. Bennett and his guide went first and the guarantee of the kids staying upright and dry turned out to be as flimsy as a democratic campaign promise, a big splash went up and down they went. Later Bennett relayed that his favorite part of the trip was lying on a rock under the water looking up and waiting for the guide to come rescue him.....great. The guides decided to carry Aiden's kayak past this rapid and so Steve was up next. Steve got caught in an eddy at the bottom and took an inverted drink. Brian was last and discovered that his boat was riding a bit lower in the water than the others and got hung up on a rock. The rock twisted him sideways and to certain doom, but with the strength of 10 lions he was able to power his way out and never got wet again and avoided the impending inverted drink.
This is a picture of Steve and Brian in front of one of the massage tents after the river run.
After the river trip a nice lunch out by the Hot Tubs was in order. Here is Brian with Aiden and Bennett. Notice how many plates, it looks as if they fed an army.
Aiden and Bennett decided that they needed a midday soak in the Hot Tubs.
Sunday came and it was pretty much a late breakfast and a trip home. The boat ride back to Tofino was about 40 minutes and then a 40 minute flight back to Vancouver to drop off Steve and Bennett. Once in the plane headed back for Heber, Aiden decided it was time for a serious nap after all that strenuous vacationing and he slept nearly all the way home.
I have no idea what mountain this is, Brian thought it was pretty and took a picture I guess.
