Opening Presents

My holiday season is spent picking and buying gifts for my children and family, Brian not being a part of this process. We all know that it takes a considerable amount of time to find the right gift for a friend or a family member.
Myself and the kids along with my sweet parents, who were not doing anything on Saturday, all went to Dad and Janis's house. Dad traditionally will be having his Christmas party on the Saturday before Christmas. After traditional Ribs, we at the request of Brady (was that a Joke?) had a nice song, to which we had three different tunes, all those in Primary and Primary callings sang the children's version. Me, I was a bit lost with the tune. Then Taylor (oldest grandchild) reads a Christmas story that he wrote.
Janis then decided that it would be nice to open the presents one at a time. She said "so much time is put into shopping and wrapping the presents and yet they are opened before anyone knows what everyone received."
So sweet Janis climbed under the tree and divided out the presents. We handed them all out, the whole time telling my kids, "no, don't open it yet." We got all the presents handed out and 1/2 of the Rowsers had already opened their gift. So within a matter of minutes all presents were opened, we had tears, shouts of joy, thanks, shouts of terror from another child stealing a cousins present. We also had, I didn't get that or I wanted this, along with some Wow look at this, and some I love that. We tried after to ask everyone what they got, it didn't work. Everyone had a nice time and enjoyed the time together. We were even able to figure out who has who for next year! This makes me so very happy!
I think Rowsers & food and Rowsers & Presents are same same.
It is a family (my family) joke that my mother and I always forget something at a family dinner. Well maybe it isn't a joke, maybe it is tradition, but it happened again. I was asked by Janis to bring a dessert and I forgot all about it as did Janis and her dessert, until I was getting ready to go. Yeah for Traditions!
Janis, I am going to try and make it last a little longer on Christmas morning, I will post on how it all works.

Growing up we always had that tradition of making things last with opening one present at a time. It worked great and we loved it, but it is a whole lot easier when you are 10 instead of 4!!
Sounds like fun, even without all those extra dessert calories!

I've tried lots of times to leave a comment - we'll see if this one works. Thinking about opening gifts, by the time the presents are purchased, wrapped, put under the tree - along with the anticipation of hoping that everyone will like what you buy, it's nice to see the gift opening last more than 30 seconds, that's all! I think by the time I finished handing out the gifts, most everyone had already opened what I had handed out. Oh well, there's always another year! (tee hee!)

Janis,
I agree, we tried it Christmas morning and it worked really well. We were able to see what we got from each other. I made sure that the boys read the tag and then gave brother, mother, mamos,etc... a hug and told them thank you. Jacob was so excited, I had the boys draw names and he gave Aiden Transformer Underwear. He thanked him it was nice.
