We are currently, as I stated in one my last post about Jacob's Diabetes appointment, trying to get Jacob on a continuous blood glucose monitor. It is called the "Guardian Real Time Monitor." It is not looking very promising for insurance to pay for it, so we are trying to get letters from the hospital ER visits and Ambulance records. With all of this we hope to show the insurance that paying $999.00 for a monitor is better than paying $5000 ER visits etc... Our insurance will be changing soon and the new insurance has a DMS Maximum. The monitor, if covered under the new insurance, would take up a good majority of the DMS funds and we would end up paying for pump supplies etc.. out of pocket. So we are trying to rush this to get it onto our current insurance. After speaking to many people the past three days, I found that our insurance is currently not covering them. They told us that we have a slim chance, but with some convincing letters, and good records (which we have) the might take a second look at him. If they accept this device for Jacob we would be able to upgrade Jacob's pump to talk with the monitor. Jacobs pump only has 2 more years on the warranty and we also need to do this during this time or we have to buy a new pump. With the warranty and the pump that Jacob currently has we are able to get on what they call a pathway program, where we would pay so much money and they would upgrade Jacobs pump.
On another positive note, this should be approved by insurances within the next 1-2 years. (they told us a over a year ago it would be in Dec. of 2007.) So as long as we still have our warranty we should be able to do this in the next year if this attempt falls threw. I sure hope everything gets passed smoothly and that we will be able to get it.
Going over the letters, they are good Journal entries. Some of them I would love to forget, but you live and learn. I might post everything when I get it all compiled. It will be interesting to see how things go, in future posts.

I love that picture at the falls, show us more!
I hope you get talking to the 'right' people and get things figured out. That would be so incredible to get that monitor. I already have no idea how you keep up with him and that darn blood sugar. So amazing. We will keep our fingers crossed for you. Oh, maybe a little prayer or two for you also!
Good Luck with it all! Keep us updated.
Jenn, what if some generous person just flat out paid for the pump. I know a few, would that help, or would it mess up the insurance? The pictures of the falls are great!
I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this. It would be so hard to have to watch your child deal with something like this. I'm impressed on how well he does.
