I hate insurance company's! I hate the lies, I hate the deception, I hate the "I don't have access to that information. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!
To sum up we submitted for another CGM (continuous blood glucose monitor) after our last Diabetes appointment at the end of January. It was sent to Mini Med and then sent onto Gentiva on the 4th of Feb. Gentiva (the third party to verify) then sent it to our insurance, who entered it on the 6th of Feb. I received calls from Emily at Mini Med every other day updating the status. Telling me that our insurance is really good about approving this if it is medically necessary like with Jacob. Emily also mentions that it might take, at the most, two weeks. This is all she does and she is familiar with the process and with our particular insurance company and she had never had a claim go over two weeks.
Let it be known that we will always be the first to prove them wrong. At 1 1/2 weeks Emily calls me again and says it still shows pending approval, maybe you should call your insurance company. I do and they tell me that it was just entered yesterday. I replied with yesterday was a holiday. She retorted "we still work."
"I am sure you still work because you are customer service, but does data entry work on holidays." I was getting a little suspicious. It was indeed a lie and records show that it was entered in on the 6th of February. I have called every day since the 17th, sometimes more than once a day. I received 11 different responses, 3 different lies(that I know of), 7 transfers, 3 disconnects, and around 30 excuses.
Around 3 days after my first call to our insurance, Brian found out that our insurance is going to cancel at the end of February. This made it crucial to get this process moving forward faster. I wonder if they knew about our possible insurance change and that is why they are dragging their feet. Well they told me to call again Monday, that is Monday, March 2nd, a day which I no longer have this insurance. I am pretty upset that it has taken so long. I only hope that they will still honor it if they approve it.
I was able to get Jacob's upgraded pump, this was easy as my insurance would not pay for the upgrade because his warranty does not expire until November. In other words we just had to pay cash for it on what is called a pathway program. We pay for the upgrade and send Jacob's old pump back for them to refurbish and resell. The new pump is here waiting to be opened, I have 30 days to return it, so if we don't get the CBGM we will hopefully get it returned and get our $800 back. I wish these things were a little easier.
