Well I received training on the new monitor yesterday and frankly I am beginning to wonder if I need a medical background to be able to keep up with all of these gadgets!
Yesterday was a crazy day! I didn't get a chance to get on the treadmill but according to my monitor I worked harder yesterday than any other day this week.
Last night was the first night with the new monitor on and it alarmed 16 times from 11 am until 5 am this morning. It was a long night.
Don't get me wrong this will be a huge help to my managing Jacob's diabetes. It just will take some getting use to but I am excited to know what his numbers do during the 8-10 hours he sleeps at night. Hopefully soon I will not be awake clearing alarms and changing sites during those 8-10 hours, I will just be looking at reports that are downloaded to my computer.
I ran some reports off today and on a bad diabetes day, "lots of lows, and highs" I will max out testing Jacob around 18 times a day. On this "bad" day I did indeed test Jacob 18 times, but his new monitor tested him 280 times. It is so nice to have a reference and see "trends" of his numbers going up or down or holding steady! It tells me if he is going up 40 mg per 20 min. by showing me two up arrows. One arrow pointing up tells me his is going up 20 mg per 20 min. Same with arrows pointing down. Two arrows pointing down with Jacob at 100, tells me that in 20 min his BG will be around 60 and I better give him a snack now!
I plan on posting some of the reports soon but can't figure out how to download them.
