Jacob Reed

Hawaiian day with a touch of Samoa! Jacob had a Lia day at school last week. I dressed him in this Hawaiian print shirt and jeans with the pooka shell necklace. This seemed very Hawaiian I thought, but it was not enough!

Brian decided to get his 'lava lava' out and have Jacob where it to school. We safety pinned it around his little waist and then Brian found this long shell necklace. Last Brian found a fly swisher (I don't remember the Samoan term) as a show and tell with questions for the kids to guess what it was. Jacob was excited because he knew the kindergartners would not guess his show and tell. Brian told Jacob that he could take of the 'lava lava' at recess, but he didn't I guess he liked it or he couldn't get the safety pins out. He did say it made it hard to run and he walked like a Japanese girl in a Kimono.

It is all about building self esteem!

Injury Update:

Last Saturday after soccer, Jacob hurt his pinkie finger playing on the playground. I didn't see it until I arrived home from the quilting retreat around 5 P.M. it was still very swollen and purple. Brian mentioned that he had Mark's Dad, who is a Allergy Doctor look at it and Jacob was not in any pain so we didn't take him to the Doctor. Well Saturday night it was not looking very good and it was really swollen, still not hurting but we thought it best to get a second opinion. Yes we took him to the Vet! Rachel's husband is a Vet and we thought kids, cows, close!
Sweet Dr. Crane told us to buddy tape his finger and give him so ibuprofen, so that is what we did. Sunday morning it looked so much better, so we told Jacob he didn't need to have it taped any longer. Within a few hours it had swollen up again and so we taped it back up.
Well yesterday, 6 days after the incident. I decide that his finger that still is swollen should not look like that. I made an appointment and we got some x-rays taken. He had chipped a small piece of bone off the top bone in his pinkie, but they said that there was no need for us to do anything else but keep it taped for awhile longer.
I was glad to have the x-rays taken and I felt a lot better. I told Brian that I was concerned because of the swelling and bruising still showing a week later that maybe the diabetes and bad blood circulation had a factor in it not healing. If it was broken or cracked outside of the joint then Jacob probably would not have too much pain and would be able to bend his finger. Brian agreed and thought that at the age of 6 is too young to loose a finger, 7 or 8 fine but 6 was a little young.

Don't ever trust Dr Crane unless you have a fetlock or canine teeth that protrude past your other teeth!

Glad all is well.

I am glad his finger is getting better. He looks adorable in his Lava-lava, & beads. Are you a little bit excited for that baby girl to come?

Epperson, that was all his DAD! Not me! I did the shirt with jeans.

Jacob's darling picture in this komono could be used for some serious bribery when he gets older! If he doesn't do what you ask when he gets older, you could threaten to show this picture to the cute girls!!
