9:10 am Aiden rides his bike over to Rachel's house. She is watching him for me.
9:15 am I drop off Aiden's backpack for school, then head to SLC.
10:05 am I arrive at the Diabetes Center, we check in.

They just put in this new door, the boys had fun going round and round while I checked us in.
10:10 check in (I remembered after I got home they didn't ask for a co-pay. If you don't pay a co-pay at the time of service they have a surcharge... They didn't ask.)

We head back to the pediatric diabetes waiting room where Jack has already got a truck and is pushing it down the hall.
10:17 Jacob starts to color and the nurse comes out and gets his pump and tester to download.

10:20 Jacob gets weighed, his height measured, his HGA1C test started, and his blood pressure done.Ok I am going to go off a bit here. I felt bad for Jacob because the nurse expected Jacob to know what he was suppose to do. She got a bit upset with him when he sat down and didn't automatically get out his poker. So she got it out for him and said "hurry poke yourself."
Pediatric nurses usually have this sweet kind tone to there voice. She did not. So he poked himself on the finger he always uses. No blood came out. She looked at the finger and told him he was "going to loose feeling in that finger because he uses it too much. Why haven't you poked yourself on the side more, and switched fingers?" She then said in a very degrading voice "if you poke your self on each side then you have 2 places instead of one." At this point I interrupted and I then pointed out that she was talking to my 5 year old and that she or I should simply explain how he should do it differently and help him try it out. So she grabbed his poker and poked him 3 more times no blood. I then took the poker away from her and put a new needle in and poked him on the side of his finger so she could do her test. His HGA1C was 7.4 which is good for his age.
10:30 the time of our appointment, they take us to our room to wait for over an 1 hour.
11:30 am still in the room, but the kids are now hungry, ornery, tired, and out of control. I have seen people come and go, but I have no idea what is taking so long. At this time the social worker comes in and visits for a bit. She and I discuss things and then I speak with her about putting Jacob on a C.B.G.M (continuous blood glucose monitor.) She felt it was a good idea and thought with our hospital visits and ambulance calls all documented, we would have a good shot of the insurance picking up some of the cost. As of November, some insurances are starting to recognize this device, it would test Jacob over 300 times a day and signal me with a beep when he starts to go out of range, high or low. I found out the information for starting the process and even while waiting was able to call mini med, who is the manufacturer Jacob's pump and who would supply the CBGM.
11:40 Jacobs Dr. comes in and her first comment is "do you want me to go and get the boys some crackers and juice." I am thinking you step out of that door and I am going to tackle you. I kindly told her no. She looked at Jacob's numbers, and wanted to make a change on his basal rate number. During this, Jacob had tested himself and he was 86. She saw the number and before I could say anything she said "oh my, he needs a snack," and she was gone again. While she was getting cheese, crackers, and juice for Jacob I changed his basal rate program in his pump. I didn't tell her that he was 46 about 20 min. before and he was coming up. I figured she was that concerned about the 86 I would leave out the 46 number. She came back and wanted to walk me through programing his pump, I told her I already did it. Wow you are fast, she said. I wanted to say well at least someone here can do things in a timely manner. I reviewed the change with her and then mentioned to her about the CBGM. She too said it was a good idea for him and she told me she would get things going from their end.
12:00 pm Dr. S left and as she left she asked if there was something wrong with Jack. She told me she had seen him here for along time but didn't know that he was with me. She said "you have been waiting a really long time." She said she was going to put a note by our name so this didn't happen again. I told her something similar happened at our last appointment 3 months ago. I also informed her that if it was going to be like this I was not coming ever 3 months anymore. She told me that she was sure she had seen a family that was a hour late before me and some others. I asked her how long appointments are, including wait time normally. She said no longer than 30 min.
Jack was being so naughty. I can't blame him much I felt about the same way. He was really acting up and again Dr. S walked by and said "there is something wrong with him." I ended up dragging him out the front door (in a very gentle way so the social worker would not follow me,) because he wouldn't walk and I was carrying so much stuff that I couldn't hold him. I wanted Pres. Kimball to be there to help me so bad (if you remember that story.) I felt like the world was looking in at me, not in a good way. I just smiled and did the best I could. This is Jack still fighting me after I got him into his car seat. Poor guy, he got a bite to eat and he was asleep.
PS thanks Rachel for taking care of Aiden and getting him on the bus!

WHAT A DAY!!!! It's hard enough to be a mom of three when your kids are healthy, but when you add diabetes on top of it, it seems life can be just a little more stressfull. Thomas asked about the monitor Jacob was wearing and I told him it gives him energy to run and play (trying to make it simple for him to understand) and he thought it was so cool that he asked if he could have one too so he could be a super hero and run fast like "Flash".
Your boys are such sweethearts. Such good boys Jenny....how do you do it? I told Mark that they were so kind and so polite today. You amaze me as you chugg along with your schedules. I am a hermit at home and I still get stressed out...TOO stressed out!
Thanks again for the fun day. We went to Wendy's tonight and all the boys could talk about is Jacob, Aiden, and Jack-Jack. William told Mark that he wasn't mad at Jack-Jack anymore for his ear and that they are all friends again and that Jack-Jack was so nice to him. Mark thought that was funny. I better watch out for William in the future, I guess he holds grudges:)
Crazy day. If that social worker would have followed you out, you should have handed her all your stuff and made her carry it to your car!
And people were just looking at you in awe, that is all. Believe me, I know. I look in awe at lots of moms.
Jacob is a trouper. Good job Jacob!
Hope Thanksgiving was great!
