Children! This week I as a mother of 4 decided to try to remember that my children are still all under the age of 7. I find myself expecting them to behave instantly like I would expect an adult to behave, but quickly learning that I need to teach them!
How do you teach children to behave and not be silly? Do you give them the 1,2,3 chance rule? Then what? Do you simply speak to them over and over again until they get it? Last, do you yell or scream thinking that the more mad and louder I sound it will make them understand and know that I am serious!
My friend said she is having trouble with her 7 year old telling little lies. Soap went into her mouth, not a bar of soap but a couple squirts! We have a neighbor boy who comes over and is constantly telling little lies! Things like "I beat up a 9th grader, and my sister has the swine flu so you can't come over to play." Sometimes it is really funny, but my kids believe him. He told them he was a police officer and was writing tickets at his post just down the street. Yesterday when we came home, there he stood with a friend on our front porch. When they came up to me, the friend said "can I have a drink" I can't get a drink from "george's" house because his water line broke and they don't have any water. Then George turns to my boys, "I have just been too busy to go up and fix it, I guess I should get on that." BTW: I would never want to hurt "George or his awesome parents feelings, so I have changed his name." I went inside and got the other boy a bottled water and came back out and said "George, if your water line broke, mine would be broken also. I don't appreciate you telling these little lies, and if it continues you will no longer be able to play with my kids."
Is this normal behavior for a 9 year old? Am I being too hard on this kid?
The hard thing is WE SEE HIM EVERYWHERE! I tell him it is time to go home. Then after I tell him the third time it is time to go home and if he doesn't leave now he can't come over and play tomorrow, he simply says I am just going to finish this last...No GEORGE it is time to go home. I miss Micheal Poloncic! So George is home and we are off to Midway, or the grocery store or for a bike ride. It doesn't matter where, guess who we run into! IT IS OUR DESTINY...
So what is normal for a 7 year old, what is normal for 9 year old and I give up on understanding my 5 and 3 year old!

Give them all a Wayne County Woopin and that should fix it all!!
I guess it can be good and bad, but at least out here in the middle of no where, we have no annoying neighbors. Then again, we have no neighbors and therefore no one for the kids to play with - good or bad influence.
