Our doctor came and looked over Jacobs numbers, asking about his lows and keytones. She like myself can not make sense of his numbers. She decided to have me send his numbers again in a week and see if they level out and make more since. She leaves again and sees another patient I guess and we wait. Sherri comes back in to tell me that the two diabetic supply companies in SLC don't take our new insurance. She asks where we get our supplies and I told her Mini Med so she goes to talk to them. Still no doctor, finally Sherri and the Dr. come in and say the same thing, fax records in a week, I asked his Doctor to check Charlee's ears and she did they are clear, she must just have a runny nose. Jacob asks to pick a prize, I am not sure what happened because I was getting Charlee back in her seat but I guess they don't have prizes anymore. We set up another appointment and left for the car. IT WAS 10:20. HOLY COW A LONG APPOINTMENT.
One example of Jacobs numbers not making any since: Low before bed, gave him 10 carbs of crackers with cheese and sent him to bed. I tested him before I went to bed and he was 121(perfect.) In the morning he mentioned he felt sick, he was in the low 200's and I said well if you are throwing up you better check your keytones. I only saying this because I think Jacob is trying for attention with the throwing up thing, he said "well it was just a little bit and I swallowed it." I still told him to go check his keytones, the strip is suppose to be tan for clear, maroon for large. It was almost black, so we double dosed him and got him drinking water. Jacobs numbers are not consistent, we know he needs more insulin we just don't know where to add it without having him going low. We chart his numbers and look at morning, afternoon and evening numbers and try to see trends with highs or lows. NO TRENDS not even anything close to the same numbers, he is high one morning and low the next with no changes in exercise or eating. I HATE DIABETES. So hopefully his numbers look better in a week, then we can add more insulin to his basal rate average for the day. So I send records in a week again. This coming Monday I have a class and I will learn about the new glucose monitor so if our insurance approves it I will know how to work it. I hope it gets approved. Downside is one more poke for Jacob if it is approved.

I don't know how you do it. I hope things get figured out soon. : {
Sounds like a mess, but unfortunatly sounds pretty normal, at least from my experience. I don't know how you do it and stay so strong and level headed. Someday it will all make sense and work out. We keep praying for that anyway.
like his numbers are going to level out in the next week! Gimme a break Doctor! Just realize Jacob's diabetes is crazy wierd and get him the dang monitor! Should I call your doctor and tell her that or just rant and rave on your blog?
Poor kid! What a trooper! Hang in there. It will work out. You are a great mom!! :) Give him a squeeze from us.
