Dr. Berg Called...

He is concerned about Jacob's leg and wants him to start physical Therapy unless he can get rid of his crutches this week.
Yesterday Jacob had at least 3 very painful leg moments... and Saturday another 4 or 5. His joints hurt and the cast is not protecting his leg any longer so when his leg is bumped, sat on, or caught wrong against something as he walks it hurts.
The thought entered my head... don't tell Brian! Now I know why. Men and women are different... surprise surprise. Mothers and Fathers are different too. I told Jacob about Dr. Bergs call so I could encourage him to work hard at walking without the crutches as well as letting him know that if he can't do it on his own, TRAINED therapist will be able to help him. I had told Jacob this with Brian in the room and Brian instantly said, "Jacob you don't want to go to physical therapy, they will hurt you." "It will hurt, hurt so bad, they will bend your leg like this and make you do this..."
Jacob is now terrified of physical therapy. Brian then had a good idea, we had Jacob go in the hot tub and do some exercises with his knee and ankle to loosen them up. Mother/Father differences here were, I would have gone with the baby steps approach. Father... Nope we are moving and putting weight on and bending etc... It hurt him, but didn't HURT him. If you know what I mean. It hurt while he was doing it, but as soon as he stopped it no longer hurt. His poor little joints are so stiff from not moving for over 7 weeks.
I sent him to school today (tuesday) with only one crutch. We couldn't find the other one, I wondered if "father" hid it. However he did great. I don't think he walked on it at all, I think he hoped all day. We did find his other Crutch and I am wondering if I have him back on two trying to put weight on his leg. Or leave him on one and him not putting it down at all? I really think physical therapy will be good if he needs it and explained to him that it wasn't a torture palace, like daddy may have implied.

Poor Jacob! I feel bad for him. It took Jenna like 2 weeks before she could straighten her arm out all the way and another couple before she could carry anything in her hand that weighed more than a feather.
Arms are different than legs, though. She didn't have to use her arm like Jacob has to use his leg. Good luck with all the recovery!
