I wonder what it feels like

About 2 1/2 years ago, Jacob had a good friend named Cale. Cale is blind, but was able to see using other methods. I would hear him click as he walked, I never knew he was clicking and listening for an echo to come back so he knew how close objects were in front of him.

He loved to meet us at the park and found his way around very well. When he would play over at our house we didn't need to block the stairs or gate anything off, he could "see" his way around just fine. He loved helping me with baby Jack and would even ask if he could change his diaper. He loved to listen with Jacob to books on tape and music. He is a great kid.

Well we were in the store one time and Brian decided to give Jacob, who had been curious what it was like to be blind, a "what it feels like" lesson. He took Jacob's cute coat and flipped it around, zipping it up his back and putting the hood over his head. As parents and other looked at us strangely I left this task up to Brian and moved on ahead to do my shopping. When we would meet up around the store I would act as surprised as the other people watching and quickly walk away... J/K. Jacob caught on pretty quick, with hands stretched out and moving back and forth he only managed to knock over a few displays. He would listen to Daddy's voice and feel his way around the store. What a fun lesson to learn!

Well Jack Jack's friend Kendal broke her leg last week. She got the cast on yesterday, after she wore a splint for a week. I asked Rachel if she could take Jack Jack in and get a cast on his leg too. She laughed... on the way home from the doctors Rachel stopped by. Kendal was in a great mood and she wanted us to see the new cast. She mentioned that she told Dr. Berg (who is also my Doctor) that I wanted to have her take Jack Jack too and get a cast on his leg. Sweet Dr. Berg's comment was "for preventive?" No, Rachel replied, just to slow him down. He laughed and I guess that meant NO!

I do think I will try the taping of the legs together, or putting both legs in one pant hole!

"Just to show him what it feels like!"

Would you really want the cast on Jack? I know if Anna had one I would go nuts with all of the whining!
BTW...How is the pregnancy going? Have you decided on any names? When is your due date again? Hope you are doing well.

Pregnancy is good, Brian has always wanted Charly MaNia, Charly because he remembers his mom playing all the music for the play (based on the book) and he sang all the songs, MaNia (not sure how to spell it) because it means beautiful in Samoan and that is where he went on his mission... Due date C-Section around the 18th of July.

I thought Charly was in honor of Brian's grandfather?

That picture of those two is so cute!!
What other things could we make our children do "just to know how it feels?" We could get very creative with this one!

Jenn I haven't seen Cale in a while but I see Merrie and Catlin every once in awhile. Did you know that Mia the littlest is also blind. She is amazing and so sweet!

thanks mom, Charly is mainly because of Grandpa Charly, Brian never got to know him very well. But loves to hear stories about him. He was an amazing man!
