Aiden has a very bad head ache and that is why he is nauseous and throwing up. Tylenol just doesn't cut it when he gets these bad ones. He said he is fine as long as he holds still and doesn't get up... anyone know if ibuprofen helps headaches?
Aiden is good this morning... it was just a headache thank goodness. Jacob however is in a lot of pain and woke up screaming about every other hour. I think we need stronger pain meds.
Well Jacob isn't sleeping much... they were worried that his medication would make him sleepy. NOPE he didn't sleep much last night and he has been awake since 6 am this morning. He has read a book, ate breakfast, and then decided that he wanted to try and sit in a chair.I pulled the chair out got it all ready, and went to pick him up. Just the thought of moving his leg... he said quickly, no mama I change my mind. I up'd his meds last night because of the pain and the Doctor up'd them again this morning starting at 8 am. He is beginning to hurt bad again and I can't give him anything until noon!January 12 at 10:24am Only Friends ·
Jacob is fighting going to sleep because he keeps dreaming about things with his leg... ie: He was playing basketball and he jumped then he came down on his leg... that part is the dream but he flinches and his leg jerks and then he screams and cries. That is what happened all night last night. Well until 4am this m...orning when he said he wasn't going back to sleep. HE IS EXHAUSTED, and doing it again. poor JacobSee More

HELP? Jacob is getting his full cast put on this Friday. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I need to do anything before we go in? Is there anything you wish you would have done? Jacob had extremely dry itchy skin... I wondered if I could spray some skin so soft on his leg to help keep it moist???? Anything else I should know and do before?January 13 at 1:35p

Frustrated and helpless! Jacob is crying and I can’t help… When I do help I hurt him. When I don’t hurt him and we work on fixing the pain/problem together, somehow later he decides it is my fault that it is hurting again. I can not explain to him that it hasn’t hurt him since yesterday, so maybe what we did helped and we should try it again. He must be in a lot of pain if he is so upset and yelling at me. I guess there goes the idea of some great mother and son bonding time.
BTW... for those who keep wondering why I continue to post on facebook, when life is crazy busy. I keep thinking Brian will be on and he can give me a phone number to where he is so I can call him... no luck. He did find a way to call tonight finally, I just didn't get a chance to talk to him. We did talk the last two nights, wonder what my bill is going to be?See More

As of 7pm tonight, Jacob is feeling much better. Pray that it lasts all night!January 13 at 9:12pm
Thank goodness for Priesthood blessings, IBU, and Lortab. Last night was much better. I had to change his clothes, which hurt him for a bit and he was still afraid to go to sleep, so we played Farkle until midnight, gave him his med's and settled him down for bed. He was up twice for more meds and both times he said... "mom I haven't jerked once." This morning he asked if he could sleep a little longer! YES YES YES
I am mad... and in tears! Why is it that people who abuse drugs or break the law make things so difficult for us? They won't refill the Tylenol III because they gave me the Lortab, the lortab worked great last night but now Jacob is puking.
They called me back and told me to give him IBU. IBU for a broken leg... I am mad, I am mad that I have to explain myself, I am mad that I have had to get a babysitter and go to the pharmacy 3 times in the last 3 days. I am mad that they never gave him anything for constipation, I am mad that I had to find out that IBU helped all on my own. I AM MAD that I just got a call from the doctors office, telling me no to tylenol three like I AM A DRUGY! I AM MAD and I am sad and I don't know what to do for my barfy son who is in pain!

Christie Carlile Balch Oh gosh! I am so so sorry. I wish I could go buy tylenol lll for you. Let me take your other kids or something for you! So sorry!
January 14 at 2:29pm · Sara Abrahamson Schmachtenberger Jenny, ok...so let me see if I understand this correctly. When Jacob went in they prescribed him Lortab. He is having a reaction to the Lortab. They will not prescribe him something different for the pain that will not make him sick? Is this the ER or his actual pediatrician?
January 14 at 2:45pm · Jeanette Cheshire Vance I am too. The good seem to always get in trouble from the bad. My sons broken arm bone Dr. said DO NOT take IBU for broken bones because it slows healing. I hope you keep fighting for your son and his treatment needs.
January 14 at 2:52pm · Jenny Long Rowser Too much to explain at this point... I am exhausted and sad and booby... but i now have a RX for Tylenol 3 called into the Pharmacy!
January 14 at 3:02pm · Jenny Long Rowser Thanks for the concern, It really does feel good to vent!
January 14 at 3:02pm · Sara Abrahamson Schmachtenberger Poor kiddo and poor Mommy! :) Sending you a big hug. IBU is not wise to take for broken bones. It does slow the healing process considerably. It's best to keep it iced for the swelling. Tylenol 3 is perfect. You are a good Mom! :)
January 14 at 3:11pm · Kristin Portolese-Petersen Jenny- WOuld you like me to come over and get your kids to give you a break? I would be happy to do so.
January 14 at 4:43pm · Susan Rowser It is so nice that you have so many friends willing to help and that they are close to you. I miss that from living out here in the middle of no where! And plus, I don't have that many friends who would do anything for me. Fell Lucky, because you really are.
January 15 at 9:14am · Sara Abrahamson Schmachtenberger Hey! This pity party is for Jacob and Jen. LOL How is he feeling today Jen? How are you doing? Sending you a big hug. You are a good Mom and a strong woman! I do not know how you do it. Keep your chin up. Sending you a big hug! I wish I lived near you, I'd bring you some dinner tonight.

Diabetes, broken leg, Aiden's migraines, Charlee has decided she is a girl and has attitude about "EVERYTHING" Brian is still gone, Not just gone but unreachable, Jack Jack is UP and Down with everything. How do mothers do these things and not end up in a looney bin?January 14 at 3:42pm
Found out that the pain behind Jacob's leg was a pressure ulcer! A BIG SHOUT OUT TO LLOYD AND HIS WONDERFUL WIFE WHO SUPPORTED HIM WHILE HE WAS IN SCHOOL! ; ) Valid reason to have pain... it looked extremely sore. Well Cast is on... he is still sore, but a cast is 100% better than a splint, splints are NO FUN. We are hoping the Ulcer heals on it own and doesn't become infected. Diabetes + open wound + a cast over the wound with no access to treat it = NO GOOD. If it begins to hurt him again they will need to cut a window in the cast to treat it.
I think Jacob thought crutches would be an easy thing... however he is quickly realizing they are not! He tried for two steps and it took him 15 min. and then he was tuckered out falling into my lap. Hey only 6 more weeks! I think we are going to wait to have people sign the cast until the last week... in hopes to keep it a little clean? ;)
6 weeks of sponge baths
6 weeks of crutches
6 weeks of frozen toes
6 weeks of WHAT IS HE GOING TO WEAR OVER THE CAST?
I hope it is only 6 weeks!
I spoke to the diabetes doctor today... they had me up his basal rate. That seems to help his numbers a lot; they said pain will make them jump up like that. (Which I knew) The problem is knowing when to bring them back down, before he has a "low." I need to be on my toes and really watch his sugars this weekend. I am thankful it is a long weekend so we can practice our new way of life. Things seem to be calming down a bit… Just in time for Brian to arrive home. ; ) I need a nap. Feb, 15
Brian is now helping Jacob with homework... let the war begin! UPDATE: Jacob is still sore, wants to get up and move but can't do it well so he gets tired and frustrated easy. We keep telling him it will work, it just takes time. His Crutches are tiny... Aiden thinks they are weapons, stilts, pogo sticks, and a poll vault tool.Jan. 16th 2010...
So grateful for the cast, Jacob still has pain but he can move around better. It will only get better from here on out!
Thank you to all that have helped me this past week or so! Prayers, advice, love, sympathy, dinner, urinals, Dr. Pepper... it all has been wonderful. THANK YOU Jacob is going back to school tomorrow. I hope it goes well. Brian is out of town again, and my mom is leaving if the weather is not too bad. Please still p...ray for us ;) We practiced going potty by himself... seriously tomorrow will be a huge day for him.See More
