Just last week, the first part of June, Jacob had a terrible sickness that made his numbers go crazy. He ended up in the hospital with keytone acidosis. Daddy with uncle Brent had flown all night long to get home to see him and when Jacob was released from the hospital Brian had to fly out again. So it was really important to Daddy that he have a father and son's outing with his boys. We set up the tent in the back yard and got out the portable fire pit.

First off we invited Poloncic's over for roasting marshmallow's. Jacob loved to roast the mallows more than he ate them but he did eat a lot of them. Brian and I thought for sure that he was going to go really high that night after all the excitement and sugar. I put Jack to bed and did a few thing around the house, while daddy and the boys looked at stars outside in the back yard. I finally went to bed around 11:30, did my normal rounds, shutting off lights checking on Jack Jack, and crawled into bed. At 12:15 or so I heard a scream from Jacob, over and over. I ran downstairs (I was still in that deep sleep mode) and Brian was bringing Jacob inside. I said "Brian he is seizing!" Brian held Jacob on the counter and started giving him sugar, (another side note, later I realized that we were giving him lite syrup.) He was not able to swallow and the syrup was all over. I couldn't get the tester to work because it had been out in the tent with Brian and was cold. I then started to search for the Glucagon shot, I couldn't find it either, I had packed it recently because we had gone somewhere and I didn't remember where I had put it.
I grabbed the phone and called 911, they got an ambulance coming and I was able to set down the phone and try to run across the park to a neighbor's house who's daughter also has diabetes and I figured they would have the glucagon shot.
The Heber police showed up as I was running across the park and I sent them inside with Brian and Jacob. I fell flat on my face while running, got right back up and kept going. By the time I got to the house I realized that it was so late and I barely knew these people so I decided to turn back around and wait for the ambulance. (I felt so helpless, I couldn't just stand there and watch Jacob.)
By the time I got back to the house (out of breath and hurt arm from the fall), Jacob was still screaming and not himself. I had called the Poloncics to come over and watch Aiden out in the tent and in case we had to go to the hospital. Jim and the girls came over, Jim's comment was "Jacob looked bad, and so did Jen." Jacob was completely out of it for at least 25 min. the same amount of time it took the ambulance to get here. When he finally started to come out of it, it was such a good feeling. He didn't remember anything, he remembered waking up and he remembered taking a tour in the ambulance. He seized the next morning as well. At this point we figured out that while we were at the hospital they had changed his Basal rate because he had been sick and needed more insulin. We never changed it back when he started to feel better, just that small amount and the excitement of camping out in the back yard lowered his sugar to the point of hallucinations and seizures.
On a side note: do you like my stools? Good old 5 gal buckets!
